FIMO and other polymer clay: tools

Here we are on the second episode fimo and other polymer clay. Today I will talk about the instruments and tools useful for processing.

Small premise: the only two essential tools for this hobby is your imagination and your hands.

said that we will now consider those who are allies of the profits to categorize. Working the fimo you will find that you need cut the dough, roll it and shape it.

From personal experience I have learned that there is always the choice of canonical tools designed for this purpose (the ones that are on the market) and the household. The following will show you the various options for each category so that you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Tools to cut:

Canons : blades (Fig. 1), cutter (Fig. 2). I recommend the first because both are fine to divide the dough and the second is useful for finishing. I could never give up my cutter! Stencils (Fig. 3).

Home : a knife Cooking without hacksaw is fine to start (the only flaw does not allow you to make precise cuts). If you do not use molds for cakes that you can more easily use them as stencils.

Tools for hanging out:

Canons : Ruller / rolling pin (Fig. 4), roller stendipasta (Fig. 5) here you see him up in the metal but There are also plastic in various sizes and prices, pasta machine (Fig. 6).

Home : to stretch the dough you can use a big pen, the packaging of cocoa butter, or even the tube of your favorite hairspray is important that the surface is smooth, non-porous and easily washable. If you do not have a 'tube' with these features you can use even a rolling pin that you use in the kitchen putting a piece of parchment paper between the polymer clay and the tool. (Be careful not to dirty it with pasta, is absolutely not the case that food come into contact with this material)

tools for modeling:

Canons : Ribs ( fig.7) tips (Fig. 8), Dotter & rubber spikes (Fig. 9). Clearly, the modeling tools do not stop here but a lot depends on what you decide to make and if you specialize in a specific area. For example, to make you dolls and ooak (one of a kind - unique pieces) are used with traditional means of sculpture and modeling. To start I would say that below you'll find everything you may need, then if you want a more specific post to leave a comment ^ _ ^

Home : instead of the tips you can use toothpicks and wooden skewers, and the Dotter can be replaced from the back of a brush or a pen over, instead of sticks you can use the stick of an icicle.

maybe you're surely wondering how you use all these tools and that is why I refer you to bet on applications.

Good "FIMO" at all!
